Lighting
Please report any lighting that is not working to 311.
Needles
There is a needle drop box at the north end of the Cathedral east lawn (the on-leash dog area). If you pick up needles, handle them with care:
- Hold the needle tip away from you.
- Be careful not to prick yourself with the needle.
- Better yet, use a vessel of some sort (disposal coffee cup) to transfer the needle to the needle drop box.
- Do not put a container with needles into the garbage or recycling bin.
- If you do not wish to handle the needle, contact 311. If you can, provide the GPS coordinates.

Luring
Unfortunately, in a big city like Toronto, parks can be a spot for luring incidents. It is always good to remind young family members about safe practices.
Here is a helpful list:
Children and young adults should
- Always tell parents where they are and where they are going
- Play with friends in groups; numbers in safety
- Know it’s okay to say “no” to an adult who wants them to do something that you have taught them is wrong, even if the adult is yelling at them
- Recognize suspicious behaviour (for example adults don’t ask children for help, so if someone does, it’s a sign of danger); go to the nearest safe place
- Know that police officers are friends
Adults should
- Report suspected incidents of luring to police (best if you can describe the person)
- Intervene safely if they suspect that they witness a luring in action
- Start young, teach them again and again – and practice dangerous situations, modifying and adjusting to fit their growing understanding.
The Canadian Red Cross has awareness information about online luring.
